Musée des peintres de la Vallée de la Creuse - Hôtel LEPINAT
About This Museum
People find their way here, often after walking the very landscapes you see on our walls, chasing the ghost of a Monet or a Guillaumin. They come to this old hotel because it feels less like a museum and more like stepping back into a painter's studio around 1900. You can almost smell the linseed oil and hear the chatter about that day's light over the Creuse river. It’s a quiet, intimate place that connects you directly to the moment this little valley became famous.
Collection Highlights
We have Armand Guillaumin's vibrant, sun-drenched studies of the local mills and gorges, of course—he was practically family here. But look for Claude Monet's 'The Rock Climbers,' painted right at Crozant, which captures that wild, untamed energy of the place. Don't miss the smaller works by artists like Francis Picabia, who were also drawn here by the unique quality of light.
Visitor Information
We're tucked away on Rue Armand Guillaumin in Crozant—just follow the signs from the main square. It's best to check our opening times online before you come, as they can change with the seasons.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in the former Hôtel Lépinat, a solid, unpretentious stone building that once provided room and board to all those traveling artists. It has the humble, welcoming character of a classic French country auberge.
