Mongolian Theatre Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away on the third floor of Ulaanbaatar's Cultural Centre, this museum is a hidden gem dedicated to the vibrant story of Mongolian performing arts. It feels less like a formal institution and more like a treasure chest, chronicling everything from ancient shamanic rituals to the grand socialist-era operas that defined a generation. You'll find yourself captivated by intricate handcrafted masks and flamboyant, sequin-covered costumes that seem to whisper tales from the stage. It’s a wonderfully intimate space where the drama and passion of Mongolia's theatrical history feel very much alive.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the stunning Tsam dance masks with their fierce, expressive faces, and an entire wall dedicated to the elaborate, colorful costumes from the famous opera 'The Three Sad Hills'. One of the most charming exhibits is a collection of vintage puppets from Mongolia's traditional puppet theatre, each with its own unique character.
