Marianas Visitors Authority
About This Museum
You'd never guess that the building now housing the Marianas Visitors Authority was once a bustling Japanese hospital before WWII. It's a place where the walls, if they could talk, would tell stories of survival and transformation. Today, it serves as the welcoming center for the island, a role that feels perfectly suited to its history of community care. Stepping inside is like walking into a living archive of Saipan's journey.
Collection Highlights
You'll find beautifully preserved latte stone replicas, vintage photographs of Chamorro and Carolinian life, and delicate shell jewelry that showcases ancient craftsmanship. One of the most poignant exhibits is a collection of artifacts recovered from the island's many historic sites, each one a tangible piece of our past.
Visitor Information
Just head down Beach Road in Garapanβyou can't miss it. Pop in for maps and friendly advice; the staff are fantastic storytellers themselves. It's the best first stop you can make to get the real feel of the island.
Architecture & Building
It's a classic example of pre-war Japanese tropical architecture, with a sturdy, low-slung concrete frame and deep overhanging eaves designed to catch the ocean breezes.
