Marble House
About This Museum
Stepping into Marble House feels like walking straight into the Gilded Age, when families like the Vanderbilts built these incredible 'summer cottages' as displays of their immense wealth. It's hard not to just stand and stare in the dining room, where green marble columns and gold leaf make you wonder what those dinner parties were really like. You can almost hear the rustle of silk gowns on the grand staircase, a sweeping masterpiece of yellow Siena marble. It’s less a house and more a palace, giving you a seriously personal glimpse into an era of outrageous opulence.
Collection Highlights
The jaw-dropping Gold Ballroom, which was only used for massive parties, and the surprisingly intimate Chinese Teahouse perched on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.
