Maison de la Lavande
About This Museum
Everyone comes to Maison de la Lavande for the iconic purple fields, but you leave with so much more. It’s a full sensory immersion, from the hum of bees in the summer heat to the incredible scent that hits you the moment you step out of the car. We wandered through rows of lavender so perfectly aligned they looked painted onto the Provençal landscape. The real magic is learning how this humble plant is transformed into the essential oils and soaps that define the region.
Collection Highlights
The antique copper stills used for distillation are fascinating, but my favorite part was the 'Senteur' room where you can blindly test your nose on dozens of pure essences. Don't miss their small boutique filled with lavender honey and artisanal skincare products sourced directly from their fields.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find just off the Route des Gorges near Saint-Remèze—just follow your nose! Aim for late June to August to see the fields in their full, vibrant glory. Wear a hat; the sun in this part of France is no joke.
Architecture & Building
The main building is a classic, sun-bleached Provençal farmhouse, or 'mas', with rustic stone walls and a terracotta tile roof that looks like it's been part of the scenery for centuries.
