Lutsk Gate Tower

About This Museum

People come to the Lutsk Gate Tower not just because it's the last remaining gate of Ostroh's old fortress, but to feel that history under their feet. You can't help but stare up at the massive stone walls and wonder about all the people who have passed through this very archway over the centuries. Inside, it feels less like a sterile museum and more like a fascinating journey through the story of writing itself. From seeing a massive, hand-printed 16th-century Bible to trying to figure out how an old printing press actually worked, it’s all surprisingly hands-on. I left feeling a real connection to the scholars and printers who made this place a center of learning long ago.

Collection Highlights

The star of the show is the Ostrog Bible, a huge and beautifully preserved book from 1581. You also get to see a full reconstruction of an old print shop, complete with heavy metal type and a replica press you can look at up close.

Visitor Information

It's right in the heart of Ostroh on V'yacheslav Chornovola Street, super easy to find. The staff were genuinely passionate and happy to share stories, which made the visit even better.

Architecture & Building

It's a formidable, no-nonsense stone tower that was built for defense, with thick walls and a classic arched gateway that has stood the test of time.
