Lár na Páirce Museum
About This Museum
Here in Thurles, the story of the GAA isn't just history; it's in the very air we breathe. Lár na Páirce, right on Slievenamon Road, sits at the heart of it all, keeping the flame alive for the games we live and die for. It’s a place where you can almost hear the ghostly roar of a crowd from Semple Stadium just next door. You walk through and feel the weight of all those triumphs and heartbreaks, a real testament to what these fields have meant to generations.
Collection Highlights
You have to see the old hurleys, some battered and worn from legendary clashes, and the pristine county jerseys that tell their own colourful tales. They've even got the original handwritten minute book from that famous meeting in Hayes' Hotel back in 1884 – sends a shiver down your spine to see it.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find on Slievenamon Road, and you'll find folks inside who are only too happy to share a story or two. A grand spot to spend an afternoon, especially if there's a bit of a breeze blowing in from the field.
Architecture & Building
It's a solid, unassuming building that feels like it's always been part of the place, more functional than fancy, which is just as it should be.
