Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary
About This Museum
Did you know Liberia is home to one of the world's few pygmy hippopotamus populations? The Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary is a vital lifeline for these shy, endangered creatures and many others. Nestled just off Marshall Road, this non-profit isn't a stuffy museum but a vibrant, leafy haven where the wild feels close. The dedicated team here works tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate, and release native animals back into their natural habitats. Itβs a place where conservation feels immediate and deeply personal.
Collection Highlights
The stars are undoubtedly the rescued pygmy hippos, but you'll also encounter playful monkeys in pre-release enclosures, various bird species recovering in large aviaries, and sometimes even orphaned chimpanzees. Each animal has a story of survival.
