Les Martovych Literary and Memorial Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away in the village of Torgovitsia, this museum is a quiet tribute to Les Martovych, one of our own Western Ukrainian writers from the turn of the 20th century. It feels less like a formal institution and more like stepping directly into his world. You can almost hear the scratch of his pen in the very room where he lived and worked. The place holds onto the memory of a man who captured the spirit and struggles of Galician village life with such poignant clarity.
Collection Highlights
His personal writing desk is the heart of the place, surrounded by first editions and original manuscripts that feel as if they've just been set down. One of the most moving exhibits is his simple, worn-out medical bag, a reminder that he was not only a writer but also a village doctor who knew his subjects intimately.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find on Shevchenka Street, right in the center of Torgovitsia. Just ring the bell and someone will gladly let you in for a wonderfully personal tour.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in his former family home, a classic, unassuming Galician wooden house with its characteristic carved details and a small, peaceful garden.
