L'Ecclésia, cité patrimoine
About This Museum
You'd never guess it, but this grand old building was once the town's communal laundry house, a place where generations of local women gathered to scrub clothes and share the latest gossip. Now, as L'Ecclésia, its stone walls echo with a different kind of story. Stepping inside feels like opening a family trunk in the attic, each object whispering secrets about life in Luxeuil-les-Bains. It doesn't just show you history; it lets you feel the texture of everyday lives long past.
Collection Highlights
Look for the delicate lace bobbins from the local convent industry and a beautifully preserved 19th-century pharmacist's cabinet, its countless tiny drawers still holding mysteries. One of my favorite pieces is a simple wooden butter mold carved with a local floral motif—a humble masterpiece.
Visitor Information
Tucked away at 30 Rue Victor Genoux, it's the kind of place you might stroll past if you didn't know it was there. Pop in on an afternoon; the light through those old windows is simply magnificent.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a beautifully restored stone structure that blends traditional Franche-Comté architecture with the robust, functional lines of a former public utility building.
