Honestly, one of the most magical places I've ever visited is a museum in a swimming pool. La Piscine in Roubaix is exactly that—a breathtaking Art Deco municipal bath from 1932, transformed into a temple for art and industry. You walk in and the old pool is still there, shimmering under a cathedral-like glass roof, with statues lining the water's edge as if they're waiting for a swim. It completely redefines the idea of an art gallery; the sound of water and the play of light on the tiles create an atmosphere that's both serene and utterly captivating.
Collection Highlights
The collections are wonderfully eclectic, ranging from stunning 19th-century sculptures by Carpeaux to vibrant paintings by Roubaix's own textile magnates. My favorite part is how they've integrated textile machinery and fabric samples from the city's industrial past right alongside the fine art—it tells such a rich, layered story of the community.
