Kampung Budaya Sarawak
About This Museum
Just a stone's throw from Kuching, the Sarawak Cultural Village sprawls across 17 acres at the foot of Mount Santubong. It's less a museum and more a living, breathing storybook where you can walk from one indigenous longhouse to the next. You'll hear the rhythmic clang of blacksmiths at the Bidayuh forge and catch the scent of sago cakes being prepared in an Iban kitchen. Itβs a place where history isn't locked away in cases but is lived and shared every single day.
Collection Highlights
The real highlights are the seven authentic homesteads, including a towering Iban longhouse you enter by climbing a notched log and a cool, shaded Melanau tall house built on stilts. Don't miss the captivating cultural performance in the main theatre, where you can witness the graceful Orang Ulu dance and the haunting sound of the sape.
Visitor Information
Wear comfortable shoes because you'll be doing a fair bit of walking on paths and up ladders. Try to time your visit for one of the daily cultural showsβit really brings the whole place to life. And if you're lucky, you might even get to try your hand at blowpipe shooting.
Architecture & Building
The 'buildings' are faithful replicas of traditional tribal structures, built using natural materials like bamboo, belian wood, and sago palm thatch that you'd find in villages deep in the Sarawak interior.
