International Mountain Museum
About This Museum
Here in Pokhara, with the Annapurna range always watching over us, you'll find a museum that tells the story of these very giants. It's a place that goes far beyond just climbing gear, digging into the deep geological forces that thrust the Himalayas skyward and celebrating the cultures that call these peaks home. You can stand before a traditional Sherpa house, feel the chill of a mock-up ice cave, and see the very oxygen bottles and battered boots from historic expeditions. It’s less a sterile gallery and more a heartfelt tribute to the entire mountain world.
Collection Highlights
Look for the replica of a Sherma village home, the detailed model of Mt. Everest, and personal equipment from legendary climbers. The hall of fame for those we've lost on the mountains is particularly moving.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find on the way to the Tibetan refugee camp, just a short taxi ride from Lakeside. Mornings are quietest, and don't forget your hat—the courtyard gets warm in the afternoon sun.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is stout and earthy, built from local stone and timber with a design that feels grounded in the landscape it celebrates.
