Fort Pilar Shrine
About This Museum
If you've ever strolled along the waterfront in Zamboanga City, you've seen the old coral stone walls of Fort Pilar standing guard. It's not just a relic; it's a living place where history and daily faith intertwine. Locals still come to light candles and pray at the outdoor shrine to Our Lady of the Pillar, while just inside the old fort gates, the past feels very much alive. The sea breeze that washes over its ramparts carries centuries of stories.
Collection Highlights
You'll find ancient ceramics from our pre-colonial trade with China, traditional vintas with their colorful sails, and artifacts that tell the rich story of the region's indigenous peoples. It’s a quiet but powerful collection that grounds you in Zamboanga’s unique identity.
Visitor Information
It's right there on Veterans Avenue, easy to find. No need for a ticket for the shrine area—it's open air and always accessible. For the museum inside, there's a small entrance fee, and it's closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.
