Forêt Bangr-Raaga de Gourga

About This Museum

You'd never expect to find a place like this just off a dusty road in Gourga, but the Forêt Bangr-Raaga is an absolute revelation. It feels less like a traditional museum and more like walking into a living, breathing archive of Mossi culture. The air is cool and smells of old wood and earth, a welcome respite from the sun. Every corner holds a story, from ceremonial masks staring out from the shadows to ancient musical instruments you can almost hear whispering.

Collection Highlights

The collection of ritual masks, each with its own powerful history and purpose, is utterly captivating. I was equally drawn to the displays of traditional textiles and the beautifully crafted percussion instruments used in local ceremonies.

Visitor Information

It's located in Gourga—look for the sign off the main road (the coordinates GJR8+WMF will get you there). It's a small, intimate place, so you can have a really personal experience without the crowds.

Architecture & Building

The building itself is a beautiful example of vernacular architecture, built with mud bricks and timber that looks like it grew straight from the Burkinabé soil, with a roof that seems to mimic the surrounding landscape.
