Flavel House Museum
About This Museum
Believe it or not, this grand Victorian home was once slated for demolition to make room for a gas station. Saved by the community, the Flavel House now stands as Astoria's crowning jewel, a perfectly preserved portal to the 1880s. You don't just tour this place; you step directly into the lavish world of Captain George Flavel, a Columbia River bar pilot who made his fortune guiding ships across the treacherous Columbia Bar. The rooms feel lived-in, filled with original family pieces and natural light from towering windows.
Collection Highlights
Keep an eye out for the exquisite Eastlake-style furniture in the parlor and the massive, beautifully restored kitchen stove. Upstairs, the family's personal artifacts, from delicate porcelain to old photographs, make their story feel immediate and real.
