About This Museum

Everyone comes to Fécamp for the dramatic cliffs and that famous abbey, but tucked away on the port is a true gem. The Fisheries Museum is a love letter to the sea, set right inside a beautifully renovated old fish-drying warehouse where you can almost smell the history. I was completely captivated by the scale models of cod-fishing schooners and the personal tales of the fishermen who braved the Newfoundland waters. Don't miss climbing up to the rooftop observatory for a breathtaking, wind-whipped view of the entire harbor – it’s the perfect way to tie the whole story together.

Collection Highlights

The incredibly detailed models of cod-fishing 'Terre-Neuvas' schooners and exhibits on the perilous Grand Banks fishery are unforgettable. You'll also find fascinating artifacts from Fécamp's local history, including remnants from its time as a Benedictine monk stronghold.

Visitor Information

It's right on the main port at 3 Quai Capitaine Jean Recher – you can't miss it. It's a fantastic rainy-day activity, but honestly, the views from the top are worth it in any weather.

Architecture & Building

A brilliantly converted former fish-drying warehouse (or 'grenier à sel') with massive timber beams and an industrial feel, topped with a modern glass observatory that gives it a unique character.
