Ferestroika
About This Museum
People find their way down Strada Ion Manolescu for a taste of something you won't find anywhere else. They come to Ferestroika not for kings or wars, but to understand the texture of everyday life in those final, strange years before 1989. It’s a deeply personal museum, filled with ordinary objects that tell extraordinary stories of making do and getting by. You leave feeling like you've shared a coffee and a long, candid conversation with the past.
Collection Highlights
You'll see the ingenious hand-cranked washing machine that was a housewife's secret weapon and the coveted plastic Dacia car toys that were a child's treasure. Don't miss the recreated living room, complete with floral wallpaper and the single state-approved TV channel quietly playing.
Visitor Information
It's tucked away in a residential block, so keep an eye out for the small sign. With only a handful of rooms, it's an intimate experience—you'll want to take your time and read the stories pinned next to the artifacts.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a classic Bucharest interbelic apartment block, its unassuming beige facade and worn stairwell are part of the charm, making you feel you're visiting someone's flat rather than a formal institution.
