Exploreum Science Center & PCI Digital Dome Theater
About This Museum
The Exploreum Science Center in downtown Mobile is far from a stuffy, look-but-don't-touch museum. It’s a vibrant hub of kinetic energy where kids—and let's be honest, adults too—are encouraged to pull, poke, and play with everything in sight. The heart of the experience is its hands-on exhibits that make complex principles of biology, physics, and engineering not just understandable, but genuinely fun. And then there's the jaw-dropping PCI Digital Dome Theater, a state-of-the-art planetarium that launches you from the depths of the human body to the outer reaches of our solar system.
Collection Highlights
You can pilot a virtual shrimp boat in the 'My BodyWorks' exhibit, feel the force of a hurricane in a simulation chamber, or get up close with live invertebrates in the BioLab. The ever-popular 'Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked America' exhibit lets you strum invisible strings on a laser harp and see the physics behind sound waves.
Visitor Information
Plan on spending at least three hours here, because once you start building a robot or get lost in an IMAX film, time flies. It’s the perfect place to spend a rainy afternoon or to jolt a young mind out of its summer slump.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a handsome, modern brick-and-glass building right on Government Street, it feels both contemporary and firmly rooted in its historic downtown neighborhood.
