E.D. White Historic Site
About This Museum
Folks usually pull off the bayou road here for two reasons: to see the grand old cypress house itself, nestled under the live oaks, and to hear the stories of the two Louisiana giants who called it home. You can almost feel the presence of both Edward Douglas White, a wealthy sugar planter and father, and his son, who became a Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Wandering through the rooms, you'll find everything from family portraits to the judge's judicial robes, all set against creaking floorboards and the soft light of period lamps. It’s a quiet, personal kind of place that gives you a real sense of the political dynasties that shaped this part of the world.
Collection Highlights
The Chief Justice's judicial robes and Supreme Court memorabilia share space with original family furnishings, giving you a glimpse into both their public service and private lives.
