Ecomusée de la Ferme des Frères Perrel
About This Museum
People find their way up here to our little hamlet of Moudeyres for a reason. They come to step out of the modern world and into the lives of four bachelor brothers who, for decades, worked this very farm just as their ancestors had. You can almost hear the clatter of their sabots on the stone floors and feel the warmth from the immense hearth where they cooked their meals. It’s a place that doesn't just show you history, it lets you feel its quiet, persistent heartbeat.
Collection Highlights
The heart of the place is the 'souillarde,' that dark, smoky kitchen with its towering fireplace, blackened copper pots, and simple wooden tools all exactly as the Perrel brothers left them. Up in the hayloft, you'll find their sleighs and farming implements, a testament to the sheer grit it took to survive winters at this altitude.
Visitor Information
We're tucked away on Chemin de Genestou in Moudeyres—follow the signs from Le Puy-en-Velay. Do wear sensible shoes for the uneven floors and mind your head on those low stone doorways; this is an authentic 17th-century home, after all.
Architecture & Building
It's a classic 'logis-étable' under a vast roof of rye thatch, meaning the family lived on one side of a central passage and sheltered their animals on the other, all built from the dark volcanic stone quarried right here on our slopes.
