About This Museum
So, I'm standing in a neighborhood in South Palu that feels... paused. This isn't your typical museum with a fancy building; it's an entire area preserved exactly as it was after the 2018 earthquake and liquefaction. The ground just swallowed houses, and now you walk past tilted roofs, trees growing through living rooms, and chunks of pavement jutting up at impossible angles. It's incredibly powerful and humbling to see the raw force of nature on full display.
Collection Highlights
The main 'exhibits' are the real-life ruins themselvesβa two-story home cracked in half, a mosque that sank several feet, and personal belongings like toys and dishes still half-buried in the hardened soil.
Visitor Information
It's free to enter, but definitely go with one of the local guides you'll find there; their personal stories from the disaster make the whole experience meaningful. Wear sturdy shoes because you'll be walking on very uneven ground.
Architecture & Building
There is no traditional building; the 'architecture' is a landscape of disasterβsunken foundations, collapsed concrete walls, and the haunting remnants of suburban homes.
