Dechko's house
About This Museum
You'd never guess that one of Bulgaria's most charming museums is tucked away in a pastel-blue house on a quiet Gabrovo street. I stepped through the gate and felt like I'd walked right into the 19th century. The place isn't a sterile exhibit hall; it's a home, still warm with the memory of its original inhabitants. Every corner tells a story, from the cozy living quarters to the workshops that showcase the ingenuity this city is famous for.
Collection Highlights
You can see the actual leatherworking tools and looms that local artisans used to make their living. My favorite part was the recreated traditional interiors, complete with colorful woven textiles and beautifully carved wooden furniture that you can almost imagine using yourself.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find right on Opalchenska Street in the center of town. Just look for the charming blue facade—you can't miss it.
Architecture & Building
The building is a beautiful example of a National Revival-era Bulgarian house, with its symmetrical design, cheerful blue exterior, and a deep, shaded porch perfect for overlooking the courtyard.
