Dead Man's Corner Museum
About This Museum
Just outside the quiet Normandy town of Carentan, you'll find a museum that feels frozen in time. Dead Man's Corner isn't your typical, hushed gallery; it's the actual bullet-pocked command post from the D-Day invasion, preserved with an almost eerie intensity. Walking through the rooms, you're surrounded by the very same uniforms, equipment, and personal effects the German paratroopers left behind. It’s a raw, unfiltered glimpse into one of the war's most fiercely contested crossroads.
Collection Highlights
The centerpiece is an incredibly intact Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle, but it's the smaller things that hit hardest—a soldier's well-worn jump helmet and personal letters home. Upstairs, mannequins are frozen in position just as the paratroopers were, making the history feel startlingly immediate.
Visitor Information
It's a compact but powerful experience, so plan for about an hour and a half. Booking online ahead of your visit is a smart move, especially during peak season.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is unassuming, a simple two-story French house that was brutally thrust into history. Its most striking feature remains the original damage from the fighting—those pockmarks and scars on the exterior tell their own silent story.
