About This Museum

You'd never guess that this unassuming building in the middle of Kampos was once the private ice factory for the entire island. It's a place where the ghosts of old lemon groves and bitter orange trees seem to linger in the air. The museum tells the story of how citrus, more than anything else, built this community, shipping crates of fruit from Chios to London and Paris. Stepping inside feels less like visiting a museum and more like listening to your grandparents share their most precious memories.

Collection Highlights

You can see the beautifully hand-painted wooden crates used for export, each one a work of folk art. Don't miss the traditional 'posima' tools—they're these wonderfully strange-looking implements used for grafting branches onto rootstock. My favorite is a collection of faded photographs showing workers knee-deep in blossom-filled groves.

Visitor Information

It's tucked away on Argenti Street, so keep an eye out for it. The hours can be a bit flexible, so it's always a good idea to call ahead if you're making a special trip.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a beautifully restored, stone-built neoclassical estate house typical of Kampos, with high ceilings and a grand, shaded courtyard that once served as the heart of a citrus plantation.
