ChocoMuseo
About This Museum
Did you know the ancient Maya used cacao beans as currency, believing chocolate was a gift from the gods? The ChocoMuseo in Antigua brings that rich history to life, tucked right into a vibrant, colonial-era building facing the central park. You can follow the entire journey of chocolate, from the gnarly-looking cacao pod all the way to a warm, frothy cup of traditional Mayan drinking chocolate. It’s a place that engages all your senses, not just your eyes.
Collection Highlights
The real stars are the live demonstrations where you can roast and grind beans yourself, and of course, the chance to mold your own chocolate bar with local ingredients. Don't miss seeing the traditional stone grinding slab called a 'metate' in action.
