I had to double-check the name when I arrived, because Chehelsotoon, which means 'Forty Columns,' actually has just twenty. The magic happens in the reflecting pool out front, which perfectly doubles them to create the legendary forty. This 16th-century Safavid palace was once part of the royal complex, and walking through its grand iwan feels like stepping directly into a Persian miniature. It’s not just an old building; it’s a living piece of art where every arch and column tells a story.
Collection Highlights
The real treasure here is the calligraphy. I was mesmerized by a stunning 'Moralq' script panel where letters flowed together to form the shape of a bird. You'll find everything from delicate Qur'anic pages to powerful, large-scale compositions by masters like Mir Emad, each piece showcasing the incredible artistry of the written word.
