Cathedral Treasury
About This Museum
Would you believe this place holds a solid gold chicken? That was my first clue the Cathedral Treasury in Auch is no ordinary museum. Tucked away next to the grand cathedral, it feels like stepping into a secret vault of sacred art. I was completely mesmerized by the sheer craftsmanship on display, from intricate ivory carvings to textiles so delicate they look like they were woven yesterday. It’s a surprisingly intimate and dazzling look at centuries of faith and artistry.
Collection Highlights
The famous 'Poule d'Auch' – a golden hen with pearl chicks – is the star, but don't miss the 11th-century ivory chest or the stunning embroidered vestments that shimmer with silver and gold thread.
