Casa Corrales de Camiguin
About This Museum
You won't find a more charming time capsule than Casa Corrales. It's not a grand, intimidating museum but a lovingly preserved ancestral home that feels like the family just stepped out for a moment. Walking through its rooms is like stepping directly into the elegant, bygone era of the Camiguin elite. The air smells faintly of old wood, and the entire place has this wonderfully peaceful, unhurried atmosphere.
Collection Highlights
The real treasures are the everyday items left exactly as they were: a vintage sewing machine, heavy four-poster beds with intricate carvings, and sepia-toned family portraits watching from the walls. My favorite part was the ancient piano in the main sala, just waiting for someone to play a forgotten melody.
Visitor Information
It's right in Mambajao, so it's easy to pop in. Just check for open hours as they can be flexibleβpart of its charm is that it feels more like a personal home than a rigid institution. Don't be shy to ask questions; the caretakers are full of wonderful stories.
Architecture & Building
It's a beautiful example of a traditional 'bahay na bato,' with its sturdy stone ground floor and an airy, spacious wooden upper level featuring wide capiz shell windows that let the soft island light filter through.
