C. M. Russell Museum
About This Museum
People come to Great Falls specifically for this place, drawn by the chance to see the West through the eyes of Charles Marion Russell himself. You can't help but be amazed by the sheer number of his paintings and bronzes here—over 2,000 works! The real magic, though, is stepping out back into the log cabin studio he built, which feels frozen in time with his paints, brushes, and even a few personal trinkets still on his desk. It’s more than just an art museum; it’s a direct connection to the spirit of the American West.
Collection Highlights
The main gallery is filled with Russell's iconic scenes of cowboys and Native Americans, but don't miss 'Waiting for a Chinook'—his famous watercolor of a starving cow that first made him famous. His original log studio, preserved just as he left it, is arguably the most captivating exhibit of all.
Visitor Information
It's right on 13th Street North in Great Falls—you really can't miss it. Give yourself a good couple of hours to soak everything in properly.
Architecture & Building
The main museum building is modern and spacious, but the heart of the place is Russell's own charming, rustic log cabin home and studio tucked away on the property.
