About This Museum

So I finally checked out the Bullock Museum right there in downtown Austin, just a stone's throw from the state capitol. It's not your typical dusty history museum; the whole place feels like a massive, engaging storybook about Texas. You can literally walk through a giant, full-scale replica of a shipwreck from the Gulf Coast and then stand beneath a real-life steam locomotive. And for a total sensory overload, their IMAX theater is absolutely epicβ€”it really makes you feel like you're in the middle of a Texas storm or on a cattle drive.

Collection Highlights

The 'La Belle' shipwreck exhibit is incredible, with hundreds of artifacts recovered from the ocean floor. You can also see the original 'Lone Star' flag from 1839 and an amazing collection of classic Texas-made guitars.

Visitor Information

It's super easy to find at 1800 Congress Ave., and parking is in a garage right next door. Definitely book your IMAX tickets online ahead of time because those shows can sell out!

Architecture & Building

It's this grand, modern limestone building with these huge windows that feels both stately and welcoming, fitting right in with the government buildings nearby.
