Atatürk Evi Afyon
About This Museum
Tucked away on a quiet street in Afyonkarahisar's old town, this charming stone house provides an intimate look into a pivotal moment in Turkish history. It was here that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk stayed and planned the final, decisive stages of the Great Offensive during the Turkish War of Independence. Stepping inside feels less like entering a sterile museum and more like walking back into a faithfully preserved 1920s home. The rooms are arranged just as they were during his stay, complete with personal belongings and period furniture that make the past feel immediately present.
Collection Highlights
You can see Atatürk's personal writing desk, where he pored over military maps, along with his uniform and other original effects. The study and bedroom are particularly evocative, preserved almost exactly as he left them.
Visitor Information
Finding it is easy; just head towards the Ulu Cami (Grand Mosque) in the city center. There's no entry fee, making it an accessible and worthwhile stop for anyone wanting to connect with Turkey's modern founding story.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a fine example of late Ottoman civil architecture—a sturdy, two-story stone house with traditional wooden eaves and a distinctly residential character.
