Asia Camera Museum

About This Museum

Tucked away on the first floor of a restored shophouse along Armenian Street, the Asia Camera Museum feels more like a collector's personal den than a formal institution. You're immediately greeted by the satisfyingly heavy feel of history, with hundreds of cameras—from elegant bellows to rugged press models—lining the wooden shelves. It’s a place that celebrates not just the technology, but the tactile art of photography itself. The real charm lies in their hands-on programs, where you can actually load film into a vintage camera and hear the distinct click of a mechanical shutter.

Collection Highlights

Look for the beautifully ornate Thornton-Pickard 'Ruby' field camera with its gleaming brass fittings and the incredibly rare Minolta A5, one of Japan's first 35mm rangefinders. A fascinating corner is dedicated to spy cameras, including one cleverly disguised as a matchbox.

Visitor Information

It's definitely worth joining one of their guided tours to get the best stories behind the collection. Afterward, you can head down to their cozy ground-floor cafe to flip through old photography books over a coffee.

Architecture & Building

The museum is housed in a classic George Town shophouse, with high ceilings, peeling pastel-colored walls, and worn floor tiles that speak to its long history.
