Archaeological Museum of Aigion
About This Museum
Tucked away in the old part of Aigio, just a stone's throw from the Corinthian Gulf, this museum feels like a quiet conversation with the region's deep past. You won't find sprawling, echoing halls here; instead, it's an intimate collection that tells the story of this corner of Achaea, from its Mycenaean rulers to its Roman inhabitants. It’s the kind of place where you can stand face-to-face with a terracotta statue from ancient Aigeira and feel the centuries just melt away. The charm lies in how it connects these ancient finds directly to the very land you're standing on.
Collection Highlights
Look for the stunning mosaic floor from a Roman villa and the poignant terracotta figurines of mourning women. The real local treasure, though, is the extensive collection of finds from the nearby Mycenaean cemetery at Portes, including elegant pottery and grave goods that speak of a powerful warrior society.
Visitor Information
It's located on Meleagrou Street in a beautiful old neoclassical building that was once a school. Check opening hours online before you go as they can vary with the season—a perfect stop before or after a coffee down by the seafront.
