Alaska Museum of Science and Nature
About This Museum
Tucked away in an unassuming building, this place is a total hidden gem for anyone curious about the far north's ancient past. I had no idea Alaska was once home to dinosaurs until I saw the incredible, snarling skull of Pachyrhinosaurus staring back at me! It’s not all dusty bones either—kids were having a blast digging for 'fossils' in the interactive sand pit and feeling real mammoth tusks. The whole vibe is wonderfully hands-on and feels like it’s run by people who are genuinely passionate about sharing these stories.
Collection Highlights
The star is definitely the Alaskan dinosaur fossils, including a full Pachyrhinosaurus skull. You can also get up close to a massive woolly mammoth tusk and see a huge block of jade mined right here in the state.
