Affandi Museum
About This Museum
You have to see this place – it's not your typical white-cube gallery, but the actual home and studio of Indonesia's legendary artist, Affandi. The building itself is wild, with these organic, curving roofs that look like they're straight out of one of his paintings. Inside, you walk through the spaces where he actually lived and worked, surrounded by a huge collection of his vibrant, emotional canvases. It feels incredibly personal, like you've been invited into his creative mind.
Collection Highlights
You'll find everything from his early, more realistic self-portraits to the later works where he famously squeezed paint directly from the tube. Don't miss his weird and wonderful classic car collection parked under the house, or the simple grave where he and his wife are buried in the garden.
Visitor Information
It's right on the main road to the airport, super easy to get to. The vibe is really laid-back; you can take your time and even see some local artists working in the studio space.
Architecture & Building
The main building is this incredible bamboo-and-concrete structure with giant banana-leaf-shaped roofs that twist and turn, all designed by Affandi himself.
